The Dallas Cowboys held their first practice of training camp on Wednesday, and unfortunately it came with an injury. Safety P.J. Locke was seen walking to the injury tent about an hour into the session. Shortly before that he was getting first-team work.

Caleb Downs looks to be in the nickel here with PJ Locke as trailing safety.

There was no real word as to what happened or what caused Locke to need evaluation. Sometimes these things rise up and the explanation is offered after the full evaluation can happen. It looked like he was favoring one of his legs.

Perhaps that will be the case here. Locke was a free agent brought in by the Cowboys over the offseason, and while they have a number of options at safety, the fact that he was getting first-team work so early on would suggest that defensive coordinator Christian Parker wants to use him.

We will update this post as more information becomes available on Lock specifically.

Update: 5:45pm ET

It appears all is well.

Sounds like P.J. Locke just banged his knee. No long-term concern, should be fine. https://t.co/9FAFDGVN1d

Hopefully this remains the case moving forward.
