After six seasons with the Denver Broncos, P.J. Locke has found a new home. The 29-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday. On his new deal, Locke will make five million dollars and be a valuable veteran in the Cowboys' secondary.
During his tenure with the Broncos, the Texas native recorded 174 total tackles and four sacks. He also forced five fumbles and added an interception to his resume, which came during the 2023 campaign. In 90 games, he was a useful depth piece and helped Denver make multiple playoff runs.
While Locke didn't get a massive deal, it showed how far he has come. He joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent back in 2020. He then worked his way up from special teams to become a valuable piece of the secondary. That determination is partly what made him a fan favorite when he was in Austin.
As the former Longhorn battles for a roster spot, he will be reunited with a familiar face. The Cowboys' defensive coordinator Christian Parker coached Locke in Denver during his stint as defensive backs coach from 2021 to 2023. His insight into Locke's game should help make the transition easier as Locke prepares to play for a different franchise for the first time during his NFL career.
After news of the signing broke, Locke took to social media to thank everyone who had been part of his journey in Denver. He thanked the fans and highlighted how much wearing a Broncos jersey meant to him.
Now his focus will be on helping the Cowboys make a playoff run as they look to rebound from a disappointing 2025 campaign.
