Covered up: What was Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s deal with Tigers' dirt cam? originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Known for his enigmatic personality, New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisolm Jr. interrupted Monday's game against the Detroit Tigers for nearly six minutes, attempting to bury an infield dirt camera at Comerica Park.
During the fourth inning Monday, Chisholm noticed the "dirt cam" near second base and started poking at it, attempting to lock it in the down position. With teammates joining Chisholm's groundskeeping duties, they attempted to kick dirt and step on the camera. Those efforts failed, too.
Meanwhile, the Tigers' broadcasters Jason Benetti and Andy Dirks joked at the unusual moment.
"I'm just trying to work here," Benetti said. "I can't see. I'm just trying to watch the game. It's an obstructed view seat now. It doesn't say that on the ticket.
"Stop it."
Displaying his eclecticism while on the field, Chisholm unwrapped a lollipop and enjoyed the candy during Riley Greene's at-bat, which ended in a solo home run and a four-run advantage. The Tigers, winners of four straight, earned a 5-3 victory.
In the sixth inning, Chisholm struck out and, from a view of "his brother," the home plate dirt cam, Tigers broadcaster Andy Dirks quipped: "A little redemption (for) dirt cam.
"Take that Jazz."
