Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we are talking about Mizzou Softbal!.
Mizzou Softball traveled to Edwardsville, Illinois, for a mid-week matchup against the SIUE Cougars. After winning 1-of-3 contests against Alabama over the weekend, the Tigers handled business against the Cougars from start to finish to secure their eight straight nonconference win.

From the first inning, the bats were hot for Mizzou. After failing to get a home run early in the year, Stefania Abruscato has figured it out, hitting her fourth homer in the past eight games. She delivered a two-run home run in the top of the first to open the scoring. Freshman sensation Abby Car — who earned freshman of the week on numerous outlets — added an RBI single and Madison Uptegrove added a two-RBI triple herself bringing the Tigers lead to 5-0 before the end of the frame.
Mizzou continued its massacre and finished the job with a 8-0 run rule after five frames. The win was highlighted by a second career no-hitter from senior pitcher Cierra Harrison.

Mizzou is back in action, back in SEC play, in a winnable series against Auburn on the road. Dylan and I will have coverage coming with Karen out due to gymnastics coverage.
We have more discussion on football and basketball, diving into prospects, visits and PFF grades in the Rock M+ forums.

So, it’s offseason for both Mizzou Hoops programs with good recruiting classes coming in. What’s next for some Mizzou Athletics programs? We’ve entered spring sports season with both diamond sports needing to bounce back after 1-5 starts to conference play.
Mizzou could use some success right about now…
I’m much less concerned about missing Josh Atkins as an instant-impact addition on the line because his performance last year was not great. He definitely needed more time with Brandon Jones in order to get to the level that Armand Membou and Keagen Trost got to, and he won’t have that thanks to the injury.
This final list probably won’t excite you as much as expected, but good column
The former Bear becomes another piece of the puzzle at edge rusher, where Mizzou loses both of its starters from last season. Darris Smith and Langden Kitchen are projected to take the next step up and become starters at the position, but MU’s rotation at edge rusher behind them is far more of a question mark.
Definitely a position of interest for Mizzou. Just a matter of if he can do it at the Tigers’ level.
Upset losses to 15-seed Princeton and 11-seed Drake have been missed opportunities to take this program to the next level. While a first-round loss this year to 7-seed Miami (FL) wasn’t all surprising – the failure to take advantage of a home crowd in St. Louis resulted in a major disappointment. The Tigers also couldn’t really capitalize with cornerstone player Mark Mitchell on their roster.
Not an ideal ending for Mizzou, but, was it even supposed to make the NCAA Tournament? I think there’s an argument for both sides.
Over at Rock M+ we have more Mizzoufootball discussion and basketball discussion with the offseason picking up for football, and March for basketball.
From Rock M Radio: Live!
The Mizzou Basketball season is over following a loss to Miami in the NCAA Tournament. The result was disappointing due to the location of the game, held just down the road from Columbia in St. Louis, Missouri. But the Tigers never were able to get on track offensively, and despite taking a late lead, the game quickly got away from them after a quick Miami run.
