If you could choose one Washington Commander to enjoy a breakout season in 2026, who would you select?
That question was put to Logan Paulsen, former Washington Redskins tight end and now cohost of the "Take Command" podcast alongside Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan. "To me, it's Frankie Luvu, like 1000% in this defense," said Paulsen. "This defense to me screams, Frankie Luvu, in terms of getting downhill, attacking offensive linemen. We're not going to stress you out a lot in coverage. I'm extrapolating based upon what we've seen from Brian Flores, obviously."
Paulsen then went further saying he envisions Luvu getting downhill, knocking people's teeth in. He said he wants the off ball linebackers attack, attack attack, "like let that dog off the leach, I just think he is poised for a fantastic year here as a physical run stopping and pass rushing blitzing player."
Grant Paulsen then brought up that in 2024, Luvu recorded 8 sacks, 99 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits, and was voted a second-team All-Pro. Paulsen also thought it was important that Luvu will still only turn 30 this season, and is in a contract year, playing for another payday. He then referred to Luvu as one who is going to play as hard as anybody, an Energizer Bunny type of player.
(Logan) Paulsen then added a second player to watch out for this season in Dorance Armstrong. He pointed to how Armstrong can play a pivotal role as a 255-pound standup end or outside linebacker in a 3-4. "If he can stay healthy, I think this defense fits him really, really well." Paulsen then went on to say that when he heard Daronte Jones was hired as the new defensive coordinator, he instantly thought of Armstrong really being used well in this defense, being a good fit for what Jones likes to do, bringing pressure.
