All eyes were on Arrowhead Stadium, better known lately as Kansas City Stadium, on Tuesday night for the much-anticipated FIFA World Cup matchup between Argentina and Algeria. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was present for the chance to see Lionel Messi thrill the crowd.
The 38-year-old Messi secured his first World Cup hat-trick, tying Miroslav Klose's all-time World Cup goal record of 16. Argentina would go on to complete the 3-0 shutout victory over Algeria, much to the excitement of the packed crowd.
Mahomes, who has collaborated with the Argentina star in the lead-up to this summer's World Cup, had a jersey swap last year. He shared his appreciation on social media shortly after his last goal.
Mahomes recently appeared in a hype video for the United States Men's National Team ahead of their FIFA World Cup matches for FOX Sports. The avid soccer fan and owner, alongside wife Brittany, continues to support the game's most exciting event.
Kansas City will host five more matches at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium through July 11.
