Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker spoke with the media on Tuesday at mandatory minicamp. He shared his confidence in having a better start to his 2026 campaign and erasing the beginning of last season.
"Slow start," Butker said, "I think when you start the season off with misses, your back's kind of against the wall (and) mentally, it kind of takes a toll on you. It's just not great. I climbed out of it; I finished the season, (and) I think I was above middle-of-the-pack. Obviously, you don't even want to be there, but you don't want to start out the season missing as much."
Through the season's first five games, Butker surprisingly went 10-for-13 on field goals and 11-for-13 on extra points. The missed field goals were from 40, 56, and 58 yards distances, which he's converted often in past years.
"When you're smooth, and you have good foot-to-ball contact, and you're feeling strong, the ball's going to go, you don't need to overpower it," said Butker, "Kicking's just such a mental skill. If you're going out there and you don't have the right mindset, that can really affect you a ton."
In the 2025 season, Butker converted 31 of 35 extra-point attempts and 33 of 38 field-goal attempts.
