Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters recently at Missouri Western State University. He shared his thoughts on the recent renderings and announcements for the franchise's Kansas stadium plans.
"From the coach's standpoint, I think that's a beautiful thing. Getting a new stadium, I think, is great for both Kansas and Missouri to have a first-class stadium here, and with all the modern innovations that have come out in stadium building, it will be there," said Reid. "I think that's a beautiful thing when it's all said and done. And I know how competitive it is. I mean, I coached at the University of Missouri, man. I know how competitive Missouri and Kansas are, but we're just 20 minutes away, right? It's just 20 minutes away, and keep coming, right? Coming when we get to that point."
The new stadium allows Kansas City and the Midwest to be considered as a host for national events such as the Final Four, the College Football Playoffs, and the Super Bowl. With the recent successful run as a World Cup host city, the new stadium bolsters Kansas City's already strong credentials as an emerging hot spot for major events.
Reid served as the offensive line coach for the University of Missouri football team from 1989 to 1991, developing a strong bond with the community many years before becoming the Chiefs' head coach.
