Just 10 days into NFL training camp, Kansas City Chiefs’ new running back Kenneth Walker III hasn’t had the start most envisioned.
The Chiefs signed their new RB1 to a lucrative three-year, $43.3 million deal after Walker put together an elite postseason run that culminated in winning the Super Bowl MVP.

Not only did Walker rushed for 135 yards on 27 carries at Super Bowl LX, but he also put together his first 1,000+ yard season since 2022. Walker recorded 1027 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns for the 2025 season.
Kansas City needed a true bell-cow in the backfield who can take pressure off of QB Patrick Mahomes’ plate. Especially coming off an ACL tear towards the back end of the 2025 season.
Before any leaps can be made for the Chiefs’ rushing attack, though, Walker needs to get through training camp. So far, there have already been two incidents with teammates where Walker has lost his temper.

Walker already had one viral incident where he threw the ball at linebacker Drue Tranquill. The throw was warranted after Tranquill collided with Walker during what was supposed to be a non-contact drill.
Little moments like that, where a hit was quick and no real scuffle happened, are par for the course. It’s football at the end of the day. Accidental hits are bound to happen.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of the training camp drama involving Walker.
On Saturday, Walker was the centerpiece of another viral altercation at training camp. This scuffle makes the ball toss at Tranquill look like a friendly handshake.
Walker was running down the sideline when he was hit by safety Alohi Gilman and went out of bounds.
The result was Walker once again throwing the ball, but then following that throw by tackling Gilman to the ground and having to be separated by a flurry of teammates.

A second incident in 10 days of training camp makes this a small situation to monitor, as far as whether Walker receives any sort of small punishment. Something similar to that of the Maxx Crosby/Kirk Cousins situation could be in play.
For context, both Crosby and Cousins didn’t attend practice today because they were dismissed after a scuffle during camp.
Walker will be vital for the Chiefs to have a bounce-back season. That’s only the case if he’s available, though.
