Kansas City Chiefs star receiver Rashee Rice has been through a lot within the last two years. His recent jail sentence forced him to take a look at himself and better moving forward as a professional athlete.
Rice is gearing up for the third season of his NFL career with the Chiefs. Following an incredible rookie campaign, injuries and off-field controversies have since surrounded his time with the team.
Rice was coming off a clean-up procedure in May that required a recovery period of two months. On top of that, he served a 30-day jail sentence after violating terms of his probation.
The star receiver conversed with media following Tuesday’s session. He talked about how the jail sentence left an impact on him, focusing on the present and looking forward to the future.
“It was a learning experience and a reality check,” Rice said Tuesday in his first public comments since last season, via ESPN. “Don’t focus on the past. Focus on what’s going on now. I’m doing [well] mentally.
“It was mentally tough. They gave me ways to communicate with my teammates still and as well as my athletic trainer. Besides the hard times in there, I kept my mind right watching shows and as much [of comedian] Kevin Hart as I could to laugh.”

The Chiefs will be happy to have Rashee Rice back on the field as their most productive receiver. As long as he steers clear of off-field drama, Rice is due for a great campaign going into 2026.
Rice only appeared in four games throughout 2024 after tearing his LCL. He returned midway through 2025 following a six-game suspension as he took part in eight games. Throughout those contests, he caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns.
The Chiefs will seek to improve upon their 6–11 record from 2025, make the playoffs after a one-year absence, and reclaim the AFC West title. They also seek a strong return to form from superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who tore his ACL and LCL midway through last season.
Kansas City’s season will get underway at home for Week 1. They look forward to a division rivalry clash with the Denver Broncos on Sept. 14 at 8:15 p.m. ET.
