The Boston Celtics faced an unexpected exit from the playoffs on Saturday, as they were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 7 of the first round.
The Celtics are looking to make roster changes this offseason that could help them return to contention for the NBA Finals next season. Boston has several options to improve its lineup, but one of the most promising routes might be through the 2026 NBA Draft.
CBS Sports' Adam Finkelstein projected the Celtics to select Alabama forward Amari Allen with the 27th pick in a mock draft published on Tuesday.
"Another prospect who could elect to return to school, Allen is a versatile wing who has an overlap of skill and toughness," Finkelstein wrote. "He's a good handler, passer, potentially better shooter than his numbers indicate, and a big-time wing rebounder. He's not quite as polished as advertised on the defensive end of the floor just yet, but there's some innate competitiveness that should ultimately translate."
Allen played one season at Alabama, during which he participated in 32 games and started in 24. He averaged 11.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. It's a bit surprising that Allen decided to enter the draft, as many believe he should have returned to college for another season. However, there’s still a chance he could withdraw his name from the draft process after the scouting combine.
