Celtics Predicted To Add 'Fast-Rising Center' Who Could Elevate Frontcourt Next To Jayson Tatum originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Celtics currently possess the No. 27 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, and it's likely they will aim to strengthen their frontcourt with this selection.
Recently, Heavy Sports NBA insider Sean Deveney released a mock draft predicting that the Celtics will choose St. John's forward Zuby Ejiofor with their 27th pick.
"The Celtics might need to go big with this pick, with few options available on the free-agent market or on the current roster," Deveney wrote on Saturday. "This pick could be traded, of course, but as it stands, Boston will have some choices based on whom falls to them. Ejiofor came in with a 7-foot-2 wingspan at the combine, and an 8-foot-11 standing reach, offsetting his 6-foot-7.5 height measurement.
"He finished last year strong. Ejiofor is a fast-rising center who needs offensive work but plays with energy and physicality. He averaged 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks last year."
Ejiofor played four seasons of college basketball, starting his career at Kansas before finishing the last three at St. John's. Over the course of 131 games, he averaged 10 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
If the Celtics were to draft Ejiofor, he could potentially develop into a solid center who may become a reliable player off the bench.
