Baylor Scheierman recorded his fourth career double-double on Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers with 16 points and 10 rebounds. All four of these double-doubles have come within the last 14 games for the second-year pro out of Creighton.

It's been a breakout year for Scheierman, who has improved dramatically as a defender within a much shorter period of time than virtually anyone outside of the Boston Celtics' building expected.

On Sunday, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla -- a frontrunner for NBA Coach of the Year -- talked a little bit about what's allowed Scheierman to thrive.

“He doesn’t care about anything except competing, and that doesn’t get rewarded enough," Mazzulla said of Scheierman, per Forbes' Bobby Krivitsky.

“When you have a guy that doesn’t miss a beat, regardless of the situation or the circumstances that he’s in, you kind of see stuff like that.”

Scheierman has emerged as a steady contributor for the Celtics this year, and he's elevated his play since the All-Star break, posting 9.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per outing in 27.6 minutes a night. Notably, Scheierman has shown toughness of late while playing with a fractured thumb.

Selected by the Celtics in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, Scheierman continues to develop into a valuable rotation player with his combination of perimeter skills and tenacity.
