The Boston Celtics' final road game of the regular season was a good one, culminating in a hard-fought 112-106 loss to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.

The Celtics fell short at the end, unable to overcome Jaylen Brown's absence. However, Baylor Scheierman nearly replaced his scoring production off the bench.

After a slow start to the game, Scheierman caught fire in the second half, nearly willing Boston to victory. He shot 6-for-7 after halftime, including 5-for-6 from beyond the arc, finishing with 20 points, six 3-pointers and four rebounds in 30 minutes.

After the game, Joe Mazzulla praised Scheierman for his clutch shooting and other contributions.

Asked Joe Mazzulla about Baylor Scheierman’s shot-making and how it seems like no situation fazes him.

“Obviously, shot-making is the easiest thing to see and helps us on the scoreboard, but he just does a lot for us…whether it's his crashing or his defense, but his instincts… https://t.co/1NwTLG8IVfpic.twitter.com/t6DvuZOVIP

"Obviously, shot-making is the easiest thing to see and helps us on the scoreboard, but he just does a lot for us…whether it's his crashing or his defense, but his instincts on both ends," Mazzulla said via Bobby Krivitsky during his postgame press conference. "He just continues to get better and better, and that's what we need, hitting that stretch there."

The 20 points were a season high for Scheierman, matching his career high from last year. The 30 minutes were also his most since March 12, but he was ready and rose to the occasion.

The 25-year-old has been huge for the Celtics in his second season, establishing himself as a key part of their rotation and helping them overachieve with his breakout. While he barely played in the playoffs last year, he should have a larger role in this year's postseason.
