I really think you guys underestimate how tough it is to be a first time GM. You don’t just go down to Home Depot and buy a scouting staff. The best ones are under contract. The NFL frowns on raiding other teams. Then when you get their evaluations that’s not the same thing as the draft room. You have to decide who you want in there and who do you trust. You get guys, several of whom have to be developed. Then there’s the coaches. They are constantly lobbying for their guys. Think Kingsbury and Murray. Who knows if that was Ossenfort’s choice or Bidwill’s commitment. I don’t even know Bidwill’s involvement. Did someone he trusted tell Bidwill he should grab Kingsbury? I’ve never been involved at those levels of decision making, but I’ve been in position to get first hand reports. You can never fully understand the points of influence. They’re different on every team. For example, I think extending Murray was an emotional decision because they feared losing him. Who was the one who was scared? Did Keim influence Bidwill or vice versa? The Cards have changed GMs like I change shirts. I believe you get a smart one and give him time to grow. You can’t jump on every mistake. If you fire that way, who would come into that environment?

Harry… all due respect, prior to Monti, Keim was the GM for 10 years. Prior to that, Graves was basically the GM for 10 years.

MO isn’t going anywhere. Close losses and massive amount of injuries will get almost this entire staff another year.

His DL draft picks are perhaps only overshadowed in their failure by the DL FAs he's splurged the big bucks on to no avail. Where are the Big Johns? If you're going to be a painfully conservative GM you had better be nails at drafting studs, like the Rams. To put it bluntly, he isn't. Where has he shown enough smarts to grant him clemency?

I know I am cursed to follow this dumb team since my Dad (RIP) and I were original season ticket holders starting in 1988, but they will have to rebuild completely before I let myself get suckered back in.

The Bears are another historically bad team, but slightly less bad, and I have have lived in Chicago 21 years.

The Rams, 49ers & Seahawks always seem to draft DL that can get after the QB but for some reason the Cardinals can't, very concerning. Like you said, our OL isn't very good either.

Just a thought. I always like to see what Google has to say. In 2019, he partnered with owner Michael Bidwill to create a three-person analytics team to assist with decision-making. As the owner, Bidwill has the final say on all major decisions, including personnel moves and strategy.During Keim's 2018 DUI suspension, Bidwill was heavily involved in meetings and decisions, working to keep the team running without disruption. According to some reports, Keim favored retaining then-defensive coordinator James Bettcher as head coach after Bruce Arians retired. However, Bidwill pushed for Wilks, ultimately hiring him.

If you think any of these guys was an independent decision maker, you’d be incorrect. I think you point is well taken that guys kept the title longer than I said. I just think there power ebbed and flowed with either Bidwill’s mood.

GMs who have full run over their football operations are the exception more than the rule, and that level of authority is usually earned from success, not given.

It’s hilarious that people think Google’s LLM knows more about the inner workings of the Cards org than those of us who have been following it for decades. I do not care what results yall get from asking AI.
