Rattler was sacked 22 times in 7 games last year. The fact that we only got to him once today is not great. Only 2 QB hits, too.

On the flip side, 9 PDs is excellent to see. If the secondary keep getting their hands on the ball, the turnovers should eventually happen.

It felt odd that we, seemingly, did so little blitzing. Dude has "Rattle" in his name and he was incredibly uncomposed last year and we did next to nothing schematically to bring the pressure.

The defense was incredibly underwhelming. As in, WTF is going on here underwhelming. Liked the two kids at CB. Hated how soft the D played. No ILBer play, poor run D, poor pass D, no real pass rush. That's against a bad team. Do that against a good team and it will be a massacre.

Saints had 75 rushing yards from RB's and less than 325 yards of offense.

KM does not appear capable of coming up to the line and reading the D. He will stick with the play that was called even as the D shows their hand that they have read the play. KM is going to get some of our players mangled when he just takes the snap, turns and flips it out to receiver---even with D players coming full steam straight to the receiver. He needs to read the D and audible out of the doomed play.

Yup. If Petzing calls a WR screen to the right and the defense lined up every single player in the right, Kyler would still throw the screen.

right?
The D wasnt "Bad" but it took them a bit to settle in...and they were not great
but everyone would have different feelings about the defense and the game as a whole had Johnsons INT not been called back on an obvious home field advantage call... they never call that when its all the way across the field from the play...but they did.
gotta chalk it up to, "well its week one for the officials too"
but it was a ******** call...negating a great play by a young guy in his first pro game.
had that not been called it is an entirely different game... but I think it is wy te refs gave us tat bullsit call in the fourth, as a makeup call

Yall throwing out QB statlines today is just pointless when Burrow is better than every QB named in here & he just had a 113 yd/1 TD game with a win against a predicted bad Browns team

I mean, Burrow had an awful game too. Not sure what's controversial about Burrow and Kyler being bad today, the difference is that Burrow was a one off and Kyler has years of it.

Kyler sucks? His passer rating today was 108.8

He's inaccurate? He completed 72.4% of his passes today.

Are you like, being obtuse on purpose? Trying to stir the pot or something?

And all of that behind some pretty terrible pass protection today Britcard. It was not good.

K1 was not spectacular today, but he didn't "suck". That's just crazy man.

He had a 5.6 YPA against one of the worst teams in the league. I could complete 70% when all my throws could be completed in my living room. He missed several wide open receivers, some 4 yards away. The overthrow to a wide open Marv was egregious.

This was a pure game manager performance.

Murray’s passer rating today was 109. Burrow’s was 88. Why are people equating their play today? Kyler completed 72% of his passes, with 2 tds & zero turnovers, and used his legs to get us out of multiple jams. He orchestrated a great drive in the 4th quarter when we were backed up inside our own 10 by using his arm & legs throughout. If not for the holding penalty on Froholdt and subsequent blocked FG attempt, we win that game going away. Considering it was a road opener, I thought we played fairly well. Not great, but not many teams are great at this juncture in the season. On to week 2. We owe Carolina a butt whooping!

Game manager is exactly what they been asking Kyler to be for the last two years. They are trying to input changes to that...but change takes time.
Did you see all the offensive motion??
You know damn well that confused Kyler just as much as the saints defense today. Give them some time to iron it out..its week one, and we are undefeated still.

eastern game, early start...has been a death sentence for this team for years... They did well today to put all that aside and grind out a W to start the season.

When your YPA is 5.6 you should be completing 80%+.

If Kyler was bad in ways he hasn't always been bad I'd just put it down to rust, game 1, sluggish start etc

But he was bad in all the ways he's always been bad. Which gives me little hope he's taken a step.

This is very fair. He wasn't bad, he wasn't particularly good either, he didn't make any big mistakes...we played a very conservative game plan and won. I'd give Kyler a C+ for the game

And yet we couldn't keep them off the field and were powerless to get to the QB/stop the run for large stretches. Against a garbage team. Outside of our corners, the D did not play well.

Exactly. He played well for a game manager, and if everyone could just agree with that, we wouldn't have any arguments. Sadly, some are equating game manager to all pro.

The Saint's were 5/14 on 3rd down. Had we come out of this game allowing 13 points, 325 total yard, 1 TD and 5/14 on 3rd down and Johnson's INT wasn't mugged off him, but the offense wasn't terrible and we win 37-13, I don't think anyone is complaining about the defense. The defense was fine, not perfect, but above average.

Edit: Defense also limited Kamara to just 2 receptions for 12 yards which was a big part of restricting their offense.

I don't think he even played well as a game manager TBH. I think you're being generous.

I think if the Saints didn't have so many penalties we lose this game.

this game is really hard to look at - if marvelous doesn't catch that deep ball we're talking serious trouble but this was week 1 - so it's hard to tell anything but they're defense front being better than ours shows our o-line is behind and our d-line isn't as all worldly as most anticipated

again- we came away with the win and have some clear issues to work on - im proud of kyler tho - no picks was everything in this game - his runs were drive saving - he contributed instead of hurting - i damn sure don't think brissett wins that game

it was like the saints prepped for the eagles but only had to face the cardinals - the philly front 4 do a lot more - we were no match - especially against the 2 tight end sets unless we arrogantly blitzed which pretty much defeats the whole purpose

This is very accurate. Do I like that that Petzing has implemented changes to make Murray more of a game manager than a gunslinger type? Not sure about that, as time will tell. I’m pretty sure you would get pushback from Petzing that “game manager” is the goal. More than anything, they’re trying to create a system that doesn’t force Kyler to play hero ball. But that’s not an easy task at all. Give Kyler some credit, as most QB’s would refuse to do that outright. Kyler has no doubt had to play hero ball since he was 6 years old, so this is quite the transformation for him. He wants to win badly & he’s demonstrating he’s a team player.

I mean he def hurt us. Missing wide open throws on at least 3 occasions. Two of which should have been rather easy completions and were drive killers. Running out of bounds 2x resulting in lost yardage instead of just throwing it away. Total rookie mistakes. Anytime you’re adding negative yardage it hurts your team. Kudos for no turnovers yes. But those things did hurt the team.
