This game illustrates why teams can’t survive massive injuries like the Niners faced last season. Usually depth beyond the second string is illusionary. What teams hope to get by playing this level of player is seeing someone who they think might develop; a diamond in the rough (mostly ruff). Sometimes someone will emerge and even dominate. I did’t see much of that. Burke had a couple of decent plays. Crawford looked to have potential. Beyond those 2 I mostly saw people costing themselves spots in the 53. Don’t forget teams make money off these games. So fans indeed were the losers.

Tune was bad, though I’m not sure Brady could have functioned behind that line. It looked more like subway turnstiles when they suspend fares. I would say it was the worst AZ performance I can recall. CB Clark has taken much flack and clearly deserves all of it. He couldn’t cover third stringers. I was in the minority when I criticized drafting Simon. I could still be proven wrong, but he was no asset in this game. I think he was using the “Think System” featured in the Music Man. Pappoe continued leading the race to the exit. In fairness both units looked like fire drills, making it hard for anyone to display talent. The game was simply a waste of fans’ time. If you feel violated, you should. I haven’t watched the Squid Game, but it must be similar to this.

It’s worth noted my understanding is the coaching staff saw what they were hoping to see in the scrimmage. It would have been kinder if they’d televised that event. Don’t be shocked if the first or second string plays a little in game 3, but don’t schedule a viewing party. It will likely be brutal as well.
It appeared plays called were like 3rd and 12 no matter what the situation. I think it was more of put pressure on the the o-line in spite of down and distance. We really didn’t do anything to offset the pass rush or call plays designed to get the ball out quickly. It made Tune look terrible…and maybe he is. Glad we got Brissett.

Evergreen pre-season tweet:

I wish the people calling the game would give us a sense of where on the depth chart each unit is

It felt to me like the Cards started with a mix of 2nd/3rd tier players and after the second series, moved to 3rd /4th for the remainder of the game. I feel like I keep up with the roster, but by the 2nd quarter I was like "who is that?"

In the 1st half, it seemed like the Broncos were a depth chart tier above in terms of who they were playing -- I noticed Barron their 1st round pick playing into the 2nd quarter -- but who knows
They clearly were.

They were playing a top 10 TE in the league because he is new to the team. A 2rd pick expected to be a starter. A 1st round pick expected to be a starter etc.

Our best players was the 5th edge, the 3rd RB and #3 TE and they were in on a handful of snaps.

Best players to actually get extended playing time was the 6th edge, the rookie back-up Mike, the 5th and 6th WR and the 4th and 5th CBs.

we didn't do our running backs or secondary any favors last night

I agree. We really don’t know what the staff was trying to accomplish. When you look at Payton’s history of winning preseason games I think he game plans a bit more than most. It appeared that way for this game to.

Not to concerned about this game but there were players that played their way to bagging groceries.

That was one ugly game. It looked like both the players and coaches took a vacation in Denver.

It makes a strong case for don't practice with a team you are going to play.

I got the full Arizona sports experience vs Colorado. I taped this and watched the Dbacks lose a 5 run lead to one of the worst teams in baseball history and then followed it up with this gem.

I missed a lot of this game as I was out of town. Have it recorded and might watch the TD drive when I get back. Other than that I didn't see anything good when I watched. Both lines and the secondary were awful.

But what's new? Denver routs us in preseason every year.

I really hope Fehoko and Weaver make the roster over Dortch. Some in here mentioned drops by Weaver, but one of them was Palmer on the screen. They look the same with their helmets on. Weaver was targeted 3 times with 1 reception. The two misses were a deep overthrow and crossing route that was thrown behind him.

Fehoko looks shifty and fast and is 6'4" and 225lbs

MHJ (6'3")
Wilson (6'2")
Jones (6'2")
Weaver (6'1")
Fehoko (6'1")
Palmer (6'1")
Dortch (5'7")

Which one of these is not like the other?

Sounds like Dortch is a lock though and Fehoko will be the 6th guy. :(

On top of his play as a receiver, Fehoko has proven his abilities on special teams. He also brought some noticeable energy early on.

With the preseason slate waning, it’s looking like a two-man battle for the final roster spot in the wide receivers room between Fehoko and second-year pro Tejhaun Palmer.

Palmer, on the other hand, didn’t do himself any favors behind an early drop.

This is a WR room in serious need of an upgrade. It's quite odd that no moves were made to improve our options at #2. Wilson as a 3 and Jones as a 4th option are fine. As 2 and 3, not so much.

Don’t keep anything sharp nearby if you watch it alone.

I hope you are wrong but if this is the case MO has had plenty of time to build out the WR room. He better be going to Washington and trying to get McClaurin.

Only one of them vibes with Kyler?

None of it matters. These #4 and #5 WRs in this offense are basically gunners only. Look at the last few batches of these big guys Monti has brought in and it amounted to nothing

Green (6'4") 15 game
Hopkins (6'1") 9 games
Cooper (5'11") 5 games
Brown (5'9") 12 games
Isabella (5'9") 3 games
Dortch (5'7") 16 games
Moore (5'7") 8 games

While our WR room is still missing a legit #2, it is still a room of giants compared to 2022. That was out group going in to the season. Dortch has been the exception to staying healthy with these smaller guys. And Green was actually healthy, but had the 8th highest yards on the team and got 23% of his yards on a single play that year!

The WR room is completely overhauled now, so if that glaring hole at #2 bites us, MO needs to take major heat. I am intrigued by Fehoko and Weaver to see how they will be used and if either can help open up the passing offense just a tiny bit more than last season.
