Cool. Kyler threw to him zero times last season
I agree with your original point that Weaver isn't likely to displace Dortch (yet) but he was an undrafted rookie last season who played 5% of the total snaps on offense.. Just because he hasn't contributed yet doesn't mean he won't.

Well we’ve narrowed it down to this.
It’s Petzing, he sucks, or
It’s Kyler, he sucks, or
It the wr’s, they suck.

If Petzing sucks you can’t blame Kyler and the wr’s.
If Kyler sucks you can’t blame Petzing and the wr’s.
If the wr’s sucks you can’t blame Petzing and Kyler

What a conundrum.

Kyler and The Petzing can both suck.

Finally got around to watching the entire game. Aside from the first quarter when Brisset played there wasn't much to watch here other than a bunch of guys whose NFL dreams will sadly end in a week. This was one of the few opportunities to make an impression with the coaching staff and not many players took advantage of the spotlight. I will say that PJ Mustipher is a guy who wasn't on my radar heading into camp but keeps standing out when the light are on. For me he was one of the few guys who built upon his effort from last week. I also was intrigued by the play of Crawford at Safety. Not sure there is room on the roster for either guy but it will probably come down to Special Teams.

Otherwise I didn't see much from the rest of the guys who are already outside of the bubble.

Yup. I don't know that the Cardinals roster is at risk of cutting "good" players yet, but the 53 will be mostly solid. The inability of Gaines, Pappoe, and Clark to be tough cuts hurts a bit but it wasn't like a lot of draft capital was wasted. The hope is Elijah Jones shows a lot better in the last preseason game and locks down a CB spot.

I thought Gaines was ok against Denver.

Meh. He hasn't been good enough to be the backup C (in fact it seems like they have given up). He wasn't good enough to unseat Brown or prevent the team from signing Hernandez. He is OL8 or OL9 depending on how you view Christian Jones. His lack of versatility could cause the team to prioritize Fryar or Conner as well. He has played 22 snaps in two seasons. His main path to making the roster is Hernandez or Jones or Conner going on the PUP or IR (not saying they will).

The Cards face the real possibility that with a good season, they lose both coordinators. This gives a brief insight as to how their assistant’s thinking goes.
Maybe but probably not. That happens with Super Bowl teams and/or #1 seeds.

Do you see the Cards winning 14+ games?

I really wish the Cardinals actually had a good season before they start planning for what happens after a good season. The idea that Petzing doesn’t still need as many reps as a young coordinator in lieu of anyone else is a cart before the horse mindset that I ain’t crazy about.

Nah none of it matters. Petzing has called like 1500-1800 plays just since coming here. This is just a way to get some assistants’ names SEO optimized.

Doesn’t matter a whit.

I find myself hoping some leadership desperate team over estimates the petzing and gives him a promotion

Not sure I agree with this. There will be good players cut at a couple of positions IMO - S and DL.

I think Gaines looked really well and he stood out. He's the clear IOL #4 and #9 on the OL DC.
Elijah Jones had good and bad plays. He actually had a quite high pff grade. He will make the team. Clark is going to PS.

A couple quibbles on my part.

Gaines is in year 3, is OG4, has no proven position flexibility at the NFL level, and has played 22 snaps over the past 2 seasons. I don't believe this resume constitutes a "good" player.

Jones is currently playing behind two rookies in Will Johnson and Denzel Burke, and in battles with Kei'Trel Clark (3rd year, fringe roster) and Darren Hall (4th year vet) for the 5th CB spot. Jones SHOULD be able to win this spot as the competition is weak.

I don't know what good players on the defensive line will be cut. Maybe you are referencing Jones and Nichols. But then, people on here argue that they suck so I don't know that they qualify either even if I disagree.

Your best argument is if Kitan Crawford or Joey Blount get cut but I don't believe either will.

I think the difference of opinion here is that I’m talking about good in a relative sense.

I am by no means saying that we will cut a good starting player.

What I am saying is someone worthy of a spot on the 53 will most likely be cut.

Small sample size on Gaines, but from what we have seen I firmly believe that Gaines is as good as you can find for a 4th IOL in the league.

Jones has more potential than other 5th CBs around the league.

LJ collier would be 4th DT on many teams
