Cardinals add four very solid "need" players with first FOUR picks!

WR B.Johnson gives the Cards a much needed over the middle big play target for QB Jeff Blake. He had some very good games
against big time college teams last year. Plus he's a pretty good punt returner and that is a big need for the Big Red as well.

DE C.Pace was a little bit of a reach but he brings as much althletism to the DE position as anyone else in this draft. He upgrades a position that the Big Red desperately needed to upgrade.

Plus by being middle round 1st round picks both of these guys are very signable and both should be in on time when training camp opens. Like the picks or not right now the Cardinals are a "better" football team then they were this morning!

Go Cards/ America!

LOLOLOLOLOL.

The Cards could have drafted Suggs at #6 and still wound up with Johnson at #37.

Think about what they did. (1) They still got Johnson. (2) They got Pace instead of Suggs and they gave up a 4th round pick to boot.

There should be an NFL prohibition against alcohol and crack pipes in war rooms.

No really, someone has to say something good or season ticket sales will never have a chance to climb above 15 beforethe start of the season. Sorry AZ when you pass on the rookieof the year in Suggs you have to expect that fans could and should be in an uproar and to throw salt in the woulds Suggs wanted to be a Cardinal and he is from AZ?????

You are seriously saying these guys (not to mention the 2nd round swap and giving a the fourth round choice) are better than Suggs.

A quote from Cards #1 pick DE Calvin Pace:

“First of all, I am a complete player and I play the run well and I rush the passer well,” stated an excited Pace. “I think of myself as a playmaker. I am an unknown player and many people were surprised that I went this high, but I rank myself up there with the defensive ends in this class. I am just proud to be with Arizona.”

I can live with this guy and I know im the minority voice on this subject today but I am very happy today with the two #1 draft picks.
Lets be realistic we are just fans not draft gurus so how can we grade this draft a "F" already??? But i respect your opinions as you should mine.

Cripes, they could've had Suggs at #10! And Johnson in RD 2 by the way it's going, at the very least another good WR. They screwed the pooch big time. Even if these guys are good, they'll only have lucked out. And you know how our luck is.

Harry,
All im saying is that the Cardinals did address two "need" positions so far with talented college players. I loved Suggs but his bad workouts and possibly soon to be police charges was enough reason to skip him over. Lets judge this draft after the season and not today.

Tim,

With all due respect but you are wrong. Right now we have a 2nd rd WR and a 3rd (maybe even 4th) rd DE. Pace is like the 11th rated DE????
How can you say we are better??

Suggs workout does not mean crap and there will not be any police charges against him. Dont bring that spin in here.

I know what some of you are saying and Jeff as usual you have an accurate slant. However, after reading about these two kids thier personal stats are comparable to other higher rated kids in thier positions. In fact our new DE has some better stats speed etc then Suggs. Now I did not see them play. As far as the wide out goes he sounds like a strong version of Frank Sanders with better hands.

Now maybe these kids would have been there later and amybe we could of ghad Suggs and the wide out right where we were. But, for whatever reason our team DID NOT want SUGGS> Period. He was not wanted by AZ. THe deal going down IMO was only bad in the respect that we should not have given in on the second pick going down to 54. All that said they might turn out to be the cream of the crop! After all many players that turn out to be stars are not even drafted......

Ratings.....Ratings......Ratings......Yes I think we blew it, but how many times doesn't it pan out. We could still pick someone in another round without all of the hype and they could be a star. Im hoping to be surprised? Maybe we will get a player ala Strahan.

I always laugh when people say someone was rated as the "#11" etc. player on the board. Whose board? Kiper? War Room? That is why QB Simms went in the last pick in the 3rd round. That is why RB Onterrio Smith still hasn't been drafted- almost every board had him going 1st or 2nd round. The sooner you realize the only boards that matter is the individual teams board you will realize the Cardinals added some quality impact players today. Add in the fact that 3 yrs from now only 30% of these 1st round players will still be starting for their respective teams and you will see that the "round" someone is drafted in doesn't truly make up the players future. Thanks again for your comments.

You are a fricking genius! (I mean it)

Pace was obviously the Cards # 4 end at worse (possibly 2 or 3rd). I actually like him more than Haynes.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Johnson would NOT have been available at our 2nd pick. It is clear we misread the receivers and it is clear Denver was going to snatch him if we fell.

Bryant Johnson said so himself in his interview. Denver was just about to take him. I thought of him as a late first rounder who might slip to the second, but the closer the draft came, the more I thought he would be gone.

Kraig,
Very good point! The Cardinals were aggressive in the NFL Draft today and we as fans need to respect that aggressiveness. Maybe the desired targeted players might have been gone but I respect my favorite team for taking the chances and doing what they felt they needed to improve the team and I will stand behind them (as I know all of the diehards here will) for their commitment to turning this thing around.
