Cam Newton thinks he knows why this is one of the worst NFL QB drafts in years.
The former NFL MVP blames Texas Longhorns QB Arch Manning for why this year’s class lacks star power.
“This is the actual worst quarterback draft class in the last two decades,” Newton said. “And you want to know who’s to blame? Arch Manning.”
Manning came into the 2025 season as the top QB and was expected to win the Heisman Trophy and go on to this year’s draft.
But his struggles at times during critical games like against Ohio State and later in the year, against Georgia, only magnified his lack of readiness to be a high-round draft pick.
Toward the end of the year, Manning got better, and because of that, this year’s expectations for him and his Longhorns have only gotten bigger.
As for this year’s class, Newton says he doesn’t see a franchise quarterback there, even though several NFL scouts thought highly of both Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza and Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.
“I don’t really see a franchise quarterback,” Newton said. “I just don’t see it.”
The 2027 QB class will not only feature Manning, but Oregon’s Dante Moore, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, and potentially Ohio State QB Julian Sayin.
