Arch Manning might not be entering his final season with the Texas Longhorns in 2026. At least that's the feeling around the program that was conveyed by Steve Sarkisian.
The Longhorns head coach explained why he believes Manning could bypass the 2027 NFL draft and stay put in Austin. "You know, we haven't had the discussion, but I will tell you, I would not be surprised," he told Up & Adams this week.
"I think Arch really loves college football, I really do. I think he loves the University of Texas. He does pretty good through NIL, you know, he's got some pretty good endorsements going right now, which is a credit to him and obviously the lineage of the last name and the brand of the University of Texas, all of those things coming together. On the same token, I won't be surprised if he declares and decides to go into the draft. But I think some of that is dependent on how we play as a team this fall, how he plays individually."
Manning will have to make the ultimate decision to either throw himself into the projected stacked class next year or wait until 2028. After dealing with injuries during the first half of last season, the grandson of Archie Manning looks for his best campaign to date. He threw for 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season. All while still keeping the Longhorns in contention for a College Football Playoff spot.

Even with Manning being widely considered as one of the top prospects in the 2027 cycle, there's really no rush for him to make a jump. He's currently at the top end of On3's NIL valuation and doesn't need to cash in his NFL chips right away. Another year with Sarkisian could be key to his overall development as well.
What once seemed like a forgone conclusion is now in the likely range. Either way, this upcoming season will be critical for Texas and how Manning is viewed by NFL evaluators.
