The latest AP Poll was released Monday and BYU fell one spot from 22 to 23. BYU had wins over Baylor and Colorado, but the Richie Saunders injury likely impacted some voters’ placement of BYU on their ballots.
BYU is one of six Big 12 teams ranked along with Houston (2), Arizona (4), Iowa State (6), Kansas (8), and Texas Tech (13). Wisconsin also entered the AP Poll at #24; BYU beat the Badgers in Salt Lake City back in November.
BYU has arguably its toughest week of the season this week when they travel to Tucson to play #4 Arizona Wednesday and host #6 Iowa State Saturday. Arizona may be down a couple rotation players, but the loss of Richie Saunders will make even a split in those two games difficult. If BYU were able to get a split, they would get their first Quad 1A win of the season and show to the committee that they can compete with elite teams even without Saunders.
