Deion Sanders and his recruiting staff were busy on Saturday evening, landing five players from the portal only 48 hours after it opened on January 2. Two of those additions will bolster Colorado’s defensive line, being Yamil Talib from Charlotte and Lamont Lester Jr. from Monmouth.

Talib comes to Boulder as a redshirt freshman and is the nephew of legendary Denver Bronco Aqib Talib. Last year with the Charlotte 49ers, he tallied 28 total tackles, four TFLs, 1.5 sacks, a pick and a forced fumble. He started his college career in thre Big 12 at Oklahoma State and has three years of eligibility remaining.

Lester will make the jump from the FCS to a power conference when he comes to Boulder in 2026. At Monmouth, Lester played in 13 games across two seasons, tallying 37 total tackles, 11.5 TFLs, 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass deflection. He was an FCS freshman All-American in 2025 and finished with the 10th highest PFF Pass Rush grade in the FCS. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

The additions of Lester and Talib are pivotal, as Sanders looks to rebuild his defensive line from the ground up after most of the rotation left Boulder in recent weeks for either the portal or NFL draft. Adding Lester and Talib is a great start, but there’s still much for work to be done to bolster the trenches.

Welcome to Boulder, Yamil and Lamont!
