Bryan Woo leads Mariners to feat never done in Seattle baseball history originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Seattle Mariners' pitching staff, led by Bryan Woo, was nearly unhittable on Friday night.
They still needed extra innings to edge the Los Angeles Angels, 3-1, but the way they did it was historic.
It was the first time the Mariners had ever allowed one or fewer hits in an extra-innings win, and just the 30th time in MLB history, according to Sarah Langs.
In this case, it was exactly one hit allowed, and it was the first time a team had lost in its home opener with just one hit since the 1934 Cincinnati Reds.
This is the 30th time since at least 1900 a team has allowed 1 or no hits in an extra-inning game (10+ inning)
First time in Mariners history
4th in last 10 seasons: 7/25/25 AZ, 8/23/17 LAD (Josh Harrison walk-off HR b10 for 1st/only hit), 5/19/17 CHW https://t.co/60GRScHV5a

Woo went seven of the innings in a brilliant outing.
Coming off a special season, Woo has hit the ground running in the new campaign to give the Mariners continued optimism about the strength of this pitching rotation.
In sending the game to extras at 0-0, Woo also made some other baseball history, shared by Seattle's communications director:
Bryan w00 & the @Mariners: First team to win a game that went into extras tied 0-0 with a starter whose last name is spelled with “double zeroes” since Kerry w00d & the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 1, 2004 at the Montreal Expos.

It's really quite simple for the Mariners: When Woo takes the mound, good things happen.
On Friday night, those good things were even historic.
