The Cleveland Browns are set to take on the Chicago Bears this weekend, and quarterback Shedeur Sanders will have a new starting center. With Ethan Pocic being carted off and diagnosed with a ruptured achilles, third-year player and former Ohio State Buckeye Luke Wypler is now taking over upfront for the Browns.
And it sounds like Wypler is ready to roll. At least, according to Sanders. Speaking to the media, Sanders was asked about his new center and how he'll step in for the injured Pocic. Here is what Sanders had to say:
“Luke’s definitely a hungry dawg, so we gotta get that back, connection going... Luke’s definitely ready to step up and do what he’s gotta do. So I’m thankful that we do have a hungry dawg connection that we’re able to get out there and feel back to normal, like we are on the practice field.”
This will serve as a month-long audition for Wypler. As long as Wypler's play isn't a complete liability, there is a strong chance he will be the Browns' starting center in 2026. If he plays at a high level this last month of the season, there is even a chance the Browns try to give Wypler an early, relatively cheap, and ahead of the market contract extension so that he doesn't have to go into the season on the last year of his deal.
Is Wypler up to the task? We're about to find out.
