The Denver Broncos made one of the big-splash moves of the offseason when they traded for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. It brought the explosive playmaking that the team was lacking last season, giving the Broncos a bona fide No. 1 wide receiver.
While that trade should help give the Broncos a huge edge in the passing game, it could do the same for your fantasy football team.
With the regular season just about one month from kicking off, fantasy football drafts will soon be in full swing. Fantasy managers know who the top names at the wide receiver position are. Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Puka Nacua, Jaxson Smith-Njigba and CeeDee Lamb will be the top names off the board. But savvy players know that it is the gems you can find in the later rounds that help you to a fantasy championship.
Matt Okada of NFL.com recently took a deep dive into which wide receivers will provide players with the best overall value this season. In other words, which wide receivers will outperform their average draft position the most? Broncos fans will be happy to learn that he sees Waddle as nearly the biggest overall value at wide receiver.
Okada ranked Waddle at No. 2 in terms of overall value, with only Josh Downs of the Indianapolis Colts ahead of him.
"After being traded to Denver in the offseason, Waddle provides Sean Payton and Bo Nix a reliable, high-volume receiver to round out the offense," Okada wrote for NFL.com. "He offers the speed and run-after-catch ability that Courtland Sutton lacks. It might sound hyperbolic, but I'm getting some Drew Brees-Michael Thomas vibes from Payton’s days in New Orleans. I’m not guaranteeing 149 catches from Waddle, but low-end WR2 feels like his floor in PPR leagues, and he has legitimate top-12 upside."
Currently, Waddle is ranked at No. 23 among wide receivers by ESPN's fantasy rankings. It seems highly unlikely that you will play in a league where 22 wide receivers outscore Waddle this season, barring injury.
If you're preparing for your upcoming fantasy draft, this is some information to keep handy. Waddle fits the bill for players who could eventually be "league winners" for fantasy managers in 2026.
