The Denver Broncos waived veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis on Thursday, according to the NFL's transaction wire.
This is undoubtedly a sign that blocking tight end Nate Adkins (knee) is now ready to return from injury after missing the team's last five games. Lewis was elevated from the practice squad to the game-day roster three times and then fully promoted to the active roster for a fourth game while Adkins was sidelined.
The Broncos waived Lewis in a "procedural move," according to the Denver Post's Parker Gabriel, as the team plans to re-sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers. Assuming he does clear waivers, Denver will have to create a spot for Lewis on the practice squad by making a corresponding move.
The Broncos also now have an open spot on the 53-man roster. One potential candidate for that spot is linebacker Jordan Turner, who has maxed out his three practice squad elevations this season. After losing linebacker Garret Wallow on waivers, Denver currently has three LBs on the active roster going into Week 15.
