Breezy Johnson and Connor Watkins

Breezy Johnson's now-fiancé Connor Watkins came prepared for his proposal, just in case the skier's day ended in disaster.
Watkins got down on one knee and proposed to gold-medalist Johnson on Thursday, Feb. 12, soon after she competed in the women's Super-G event at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Everything went largely to plan, with Watkins able to get into the finish line area where he pulled out a ring, with a curved silver band and a blue gem, but he did come up with a "plan B" that he could go to if Johnson crashed badly during her race.
Johnson did crash, in what was her final event of the Milan Cortina Games, but she was easily able to ski down the mountain, to her fiancé's relief.

"I’ve been really nervous; every time she goes down the hill, I’m nervous," Watkins said on the Today show a few hours later. "I wanted her to do well, but I just wanted her to be safe, too. She got up after the crash and was good, and that was a sign of relief. And then my heart started racing again because I knew I was about to go and get down on my own knee and propose."
"The mountains don’t always cooperate with what you’re planning," he continued. "This was plan A. There was a plan B. Luckily, she got up and was fine, and we could stick with plan A. But definitely, in the case where she wasn’t receptive of the proposal, I had a backup plan just in case."

Watkins didn't need to worry, though — Johnson was fully on board with an Olympics proposal and had been dropping hints to her then-boyfriend before she left to compete. She was still all for it after she crashed.
"I mean, when you make mistakes like that in ski racing you feel kind of stupid and you just kind of want to go talk to your friends and family," she told hosts Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin. "And yeah, seeing him was really exciting and then just everything else was crazy."
