The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came into Day 2 of the NFL Draft having needs at cornerback, edge, linebacker, and safety. With the 53rd overall pick, the Buccaneers addressed their most significant need at corner by drafting Notre Dame Cornerback Benjamin Morrison.

Benjamin Morrison is a technical and instinctive cornerback out of Notre Dame, widely regarded as one of the top defensive backs in the 2025 NFL Draft class. At 6'0" and 193 pounds, Morrison has good size and arm length but also wins with his intelligence, ball skills, and sticky coverage. Over three seasons in South Bend, he accumulated 84 tackles, 18 pass breakups, and nine interceptions, making him a perfect addition to a Buccaneers secondary that struggled to take the ball away.

Morrison is versatile, can be used in both man and zone coverage, with quick feet that allow him to mirror receivers across the field. His ball production was most evident in his breakout 2022 season. He plays with toughness and competes through the whistle, dependable in run support and a scrappy presence at the catch point, playing through the ball.

With that said. Morrison’s draft process wasn’t clear of red flags. A hip injury ended his 2024 season, and Morrison opted for surgery to prepare for the draft. While once a top ten consensus pick, this injury dropped his stock to the second round. Morrison held a private workout three days prior to the draft, where team scouts could see his recovered hip in action. If healthy, Morrison instantly upgrades the Buccaneers' secondary and will compete for CB2 with Jamel Dean.
