According to a report from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich star Lennart Karl will miss the World Cup with an injury he picked up in training.

It seems as if Bild’s initial reporting was correct and that Karl did suffer a muscle injury. In this case, though, it was a muscle fiber tear, which will keep the youngster sidelined for the tournament in North America. The injury was confirmed with an MRI:

The 18 y/o FC Bayern gem suffered a muscle fibre tear during Germany’s final training session in Chicago today. The injury was confirmed by an MRI scan.

The final decision regarding his treatment is currently being made. His return to Munich is also being discussed internally. @berger_pj @kerry_hau @SkySportDE

Julian Nagelsmann will now likely call in another player to take Karl’s roster spot. Who will get the nod?
