Dolphins | Boston's Trainer Says Weight Loss Would Be 'Counterproductive' - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 18 May 2004 09:33:04 -0700

The Palm Beach Post reports Miami Dolphins WR David Boston's (hamstring, shin) personal trainer said Monday, May 17, that Boston would be "counterproductive" should he lose about 11 pounds, as the Dolphins have asked. Boston, who carries only 5 percent body fat, hasn't shed a pound in two months and still is around 240 pounds. "When you get below 4 percent, you start to encounter sleep disorders," Boston's trainer, Charles Poliquin said. "The problem is that if he loses weight, he will be more prone to injury and not as fast. That would be taking two cylinders out of a car. The thing about this NFL science is that it's about five or six Olympic medals behind in the times." The Dolphins believe Boston's excess weight may have contributed to lower leg bleeding that kept him out of the first three days of quarterback school.

I think 240 sounds about right for his body type. He just needs to start working more on his lower body weight training instead of concentrating so much on his upper body.

Also he needs to get tougher. I would be willing to bet that most of his nagging injuries any other WR has as well but plays through the pain. The guy gets on little injury and he is out for a week while any normal WR would just play through it and not get slowed down.

Also remember Mike Williams playing weight is 240 and a lot of people liked him better then Fitz on this board.

It's not the good, hard working weight on his body that is the problem. Its the dead weight in his head that is his major downfall.

Maybe somebody needs to tell Boston that this is football and not Bodybuilding. Look at TO body he carries 228 on his frame and he looks rock solid and he has less injury than Boston has. Plus I don't think Boston has the mental capacity to play the game IMO.

WHO CARES!!!!!!? My God you guys - let it go - why delight in the plight of others so much - espeically one who really never harmed this team or went out of his way to badmouth us after he left. The guy's a freak and doesn't get it - we get the point already.

He fits the classic steroid user profile, whether he uses or not. Steroid users get "too big" for their frame and then suffer from an abnormal amount of nagging injuries because they're carrying too much weight. Load your car full of phone books and drive it around and see how much quicker your tires wear out.

Well put.

By the way, for fear of causing an uproar with the disenchanted, how was Coachella?

Because he teased us and wasted our hopes. He was a very VERY good player for 2 years here.

Not just that, sometimes it's morbidly entertaining to watch a guy lose his mind and completely self-destruct.

Back to Boston:

Cheese, we care because those who said "cut him loose, even for nothing," were ripped unmercifully but many, including the national media, and the dark siders.

The phrase:

"I'm glad we cut him, I think it was a smart move" immediately elicits the response:

"Yeah, but we could have got something for him.

and blah, blah, blah etc.

There were some bruised egos, and some sore feelings over that whole deal. The initial posts above are meant to reaffirm the wisdom of the kool aiders, and make everyone in Cardinal land feel better about themselves.

Also, its kind of like watching someone you know being involved in serious accident.

Anyway,

If boston wants to walk around at 240, ripped to the max, thats great. The problem is that his joints and ligements aren't designed to hold that much weight AND run pass routes.

Someone said boston should pick body building or football. They hit the nail right on the head.

just as Ouchie said - absolutely unbelievable - I think it was my second favorite year out of the four I've gone - Music was unbelievable - probably the best I've heard over two days and the other stuff was plentiful and ridiculous as well.
