Earlier this month, Rams fans got wind of a potential trade bringing in Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown, but there's a catch.
Usually, a trade means players are being swapped, and that is indeed what would have happened here; the Rams were absolutely on board with the transaction. Just one thing though... It would have been a trade shipping out Davante Adams for A.J. Brown.
After the delight of getting a stud at wide receiver, the faces turned to a more grimace-like look in Inglewood, CA.
Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed the rumors on Monday, saying, “I’ve talked with Davante about that, and if we felt like it was best for our team, we would’ve done that,” McVay said.
The trade fell through because a medical record issue made it unnecessary to part with Adams. The move that never happened was probably best for both parties at the moment. With Rams WR Puka Nacua in line for an extension, the market has moved to $42.15 million per year, thanks to the new Jaxon Smith-Njigba deal. The Rams wouldn’t have paid him, Brown ($29 million for 2026), and Adams ($24 million for 2026).
All of the extracurriculars were settled before Adams was due a $6 million roster bonus in mid-March.
Now, even though Adams was made aware of the potential move that he could be elsewhere in 2026, one wonders whether Adams can appreciate McVay's honesty up front, or if a grudge will be held.
