The Belmont Bruins didn't look far too far in their head coaching search, as they've hired former Bruins star Evan Bradds, who's currently working as an assistant on Duke's staff.

Bradds played at Belmont from 2013-2017, starting 98 of 129 games. As a senior, he averaged 20.0 points and 8.4 rebounds per game on 62.3% shooting from the field on his way to being named the Ohio Valley Player of the Year — his second straight year claiming that honor.

Soon after his college basketball days came to a close, Bradds joined the coaching staff of the NBA G League's Maine Red Claws before being promoted in 2021 as an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics. He spent one season in that role before Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy, formerly an assistant alongside Bradds in Boston, hired him to his staff in 2022. He was with the Jazz until 2025, when Duke head coach Jon Scheyer hired him as an assistant coach.

Bradds will now head back to where it all began, taking over a Belmont program that has seen loads of success in recent seasons under former head coach Casey Washington. They went 26-6 but fell in the MVC quarterfinals to Drake in 2026. After the season, Washington was hired to replace Jerome Tang at Kansas State, opening up the spot for Bradds.

The Bruins haven't made an NCAA tournament appearance since 2019, an unprecedented drought for the program considering they made the dance in seven out of 10 seasons between 2006-2015. Getting back to the tournament is priority number one for Bradds, who's stepping into a favorable spot as the head coach of an emerging Belmont program.
