Since the Chicago Bears have practiced in full pads, the team has encountered injury after injury.
The Bears practiced for the third day this week in full pads after Wednesday's session featured just helmets. During the Bears' first day in pads, Coby Bryant went down with a knee injury. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the veteran safety would be out 8-10 weeks, but Bears head coach Ben Johnson pushed back on that timeline, stating that the team is still in the information collection stage and there will be more information in the next few days.
"I don't know where you guys got that," Johnson said on the 8-10 week timeline for Bryant's recovery. "Yeah, it hasn't been said here, but I'll let you guys know whenever we know for sure what it looks like for him."
While the Bears gather more information on Bryant, the team will have to also monitor the status of left tackle Braxton Jones and defensive end Montez Sweat. Jones was injured during a 1-on-1 rep against Austin Booker. According to those who saw the play, Jones was in visible pain, but did walk off the field under his own power with trainer Andre Tucker.
According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, the Bears' left tackle avoided "a significant injury during camp today when he went inside during 1 on 1s. The initial belief is that the injury isn't long-term in nature with the base case scenario (after the team gathers more info on the extent) being one where Jones would be considered day to day."
Sweat was injured during a play in 11 on 11s. Like Jones, the Bears' defensive end walked off the field with Tucker. Backup defensive back Dallis Flowers needed assistance off the field during the team period. Second-year defensive back Gervarrius Owens had to be carted off the field after a punt return rep.
The injuries will headline Thursday's practice, but there were plenty of other takeaways.
Here are my notes after the Bears' eighth training camp practice.
At the end of practice, the Bears' offense lined up at their own 35-yard line down 24-21 with 1:41 left in the game and had two timeouts.
Here's how the drive went.
Play 1: D'Andre Swift ran the ball on a toss to the left side of the field, turning the corner for a first down.
Play 2: Caleb Williams connected with Colston Loveland for a short pickup in the middle of the field.
Play 3: Williams surveyed the field and threw an accurate pass to Kalif Raymond, who ran a corner route near the right sideline. An explosive play for the Bears' offense.
Play 4: The Bears ran a screen to the left side of the formation. Raymond picked up five to six yards and got a good block from Rome Odunze. (The Bears worked on a screen blocking drill earlier in the practice, and Odunze made a nice block on Jaylon Johnson to free up his teammate, who caught the ball. Odunze applied the technique from this drill later in practice.)
Play 5: Austin Booker blew up a run play in the backfield. He split a block from Raymond and Loveland, making a tackle for a loss.
Play 6: On third-and-medium, Williams completed a pass over the middle of the field to Odunze to keep the offense on the field.
Play 7: Williams threw a quick pass to Swift on the right side of the field. He was stopped four yards short of the goal line.
Play 8: Luther Burden III ran a well-executed route against rookie Dillon Thieneman, crossing the safeties face and ending the drive with a touchdown reception.

11-on-11 Observations
- With the injury to Jones, Kiran Amegadjie received most of the reps with the first-team offense. Jedrick Wills lined up at left tackle with the second-team offense.
- The Bears ran a play action pass and linebacker Devin Bush blitzed on the play. Swift blocked Bush, giving Williams time to find a receiver down field. Odunze was wide open near the right sideline. Williams completed the pass to this receiver, and Odunze made a move on the defensive back and scored an explosive touchdown.
- Gervon Dexter Sr. created some penetration, drawing a holding call against the interior of the offensive line. The offense had a false start on the next play. Then Tyrique Stevenson intercepted Williams. The pass was well behind Odunze, who slipped on the inbreaking out. Dexter may have tipped the pass as well.

- Quarterback Case Keenum connected with wide receiver Kaden Davis in the back left corner of the end zone. Accurate pass and good concentration on the catch.
- T.J. Edwards participated in individual drills, but he didn't practice in the live 11-on-11 sessions.
- Rookie sixth-round draft pick Jordan van den Berg got some reps with the first-team defense. According to reporters who had a closer vantage point of the practice, Van den Berg won some reps during 1 on 1s and impressed during the 9-on-7 period.
1 on 1s
- Rome Odunze and Jaylon Johnson went against each other for two reps, and the Bears' receiver won both. Tyson Bagent connected with Odunze on a fade route with Johnson in coverage. Williams also completed a pass to Odunze on a corner route with Johnson in coverage. The third-year receivers showed some savvy route running against the Bears' top cornerback.
- Luther Burden III beat Tyrique Stevenson on an outbreaking route.
- Raymond created decent separation against Jaylon Johnson, catching the pass in the middle of the field.
- Malik Muhammad II showed some sticky coverage against Jahdae Walker, forcing an incomplete pass.
- Williams completed a pass to Burden, who beat Muhammad on a fade route.
- Stevenson was all over Raymond's comeback route to the left sideline. Incomplete pass.
