SPRINGFIELD, Mo–Welcome home Cuonzo and his battling Bears.

It’s been two and a half weeks since Cuonzo Martin and MoState have played a basketball game at Great Southern Bank Arena.

And Missouri State is settling in because five of the next six games will be played on the home hardwood.

Missouri State was looking for its third straight win against Sam Houston.

And this game was a battle, Springfield Central’s Tyrique Brooks with the corner three, Bears up 11-7.

But the Bearkats were up for the fight, Damon Nicholas with the steal, to Justin Begg for the finish it’s 24-16 Sam Houston.

MoState steals this inbounds pass, Zaxton King takes it in for the basket, Bears down by six.

Michael Osei-Bonsu, doing what he does best inside, 34-29 Sam Houston.

The Bearkats led by five at the half.

Second half, more Sam Houston, Jacob Walker coast to coast and splits the defense for the basket, 57-51 Sam Houston.

MoState back the other way Trey Williams to Darrion Sutton for the slam dunk, Bears within three.

Then Keith Palek with the corner three, MoState down one.

But the Bears could not catch the Bearkats, the ally oop to Kashe Natt for the flush.

And Sam Houston snaps the Bears winning streak, 80-71.

“I wouldn’t say we got out toughed. That’s not the case. We didn’t do a very good job of guarding off the dribble especially in the second half. Yea you have opportunities to make shots. I’ve always said, defend, rebound and play as hard as you can. So if the shot doesn’t fall you can hang your hat on defense side of the ball. And we didn’t do a good enough job on the defensive side of the ball,” said Martin.
