The worst thing for a running back is having a problem holding onto the ball. We all want Beanie to play more but no way can Whiz chance a turnover. A fumble can change the whole game. I never saw this coming as he certainly didn't have a fumble problem in college. Just hope he learns to hold onto the ball. Most feel this can be taught and fixed.

The only thing disappointing is our Oline's inability to give either of our backs decent blocking up front.

He has all of the tools to be a great back. However until he proves he can protect the ball I can't see the coaches trusting him enough to be the featured back.

Right now teams are telling their defenses to go after the ball any time Wells is carrying it.

He is SO focused on not losing the ball that it's messing with his head.
I don't know what we've got in him.

I totally agree that Beanies total focus is not on fumbling and his first NFL baby steps came with his first pass he caught yesterday and he took WAY TOO much time locking it in,that a normal rb would have already started on his way.

Give him time.He is gonna give us plenty of first downs this season and Hightower is gonna lead the way.Beanie might not be getting the mentoring that Timmy got last season from Edge but I know he's learning a lot on the run due to missing time and being injured with the ankle and now after the fumble game he's gonna have to have a game when he feels relaxed on where he is suppose to be and let it flow.

We've all seen him at Ohio State when he felt comfortable to be himself. He is being asked much more of now that its the NFL and once he gets it he'll be the bell cow.Its still Hightowers team till that happens and the light goes on.It will happen and since he's had such a slow start and not so much punnishment on him he may not hit that supposed rookie wall that so many seem to hit the first year.

Beanie might be catching on at the right time during the playoff run and it would be awesome.Look at the steelers rb who took a year to catch on from Illinois. He has now taken over the starters job.It took a year though and he was much more highly touted than Beanie has been.Give the kid some time. He's gonna produce many cheers from all of us.Wait till a couple of the lamb games give him confidence he needs to get going.:D

Still if you saw that one run of almost exactly ten yards, THAT was AWESOME, even though it was only 10 yards the move was elite in caliber.

He'll be fine, right now teams know when he's in we're going to run and like was said he's OVER worried about fumbling, carrying the ball has to be instinct not thinking about holding onto it.

This year he'll just be learning mostly.

Usually I would agree. But there were good holes to run through for Wells in this game.

He has been a bit of a dissapointment so far. There is no denying it.

Patience....Mendenhall who is now the full time starter for the steelers missed most of the whole season last year just being ineffective.Call it coaching or learning the plays and he also put the ball on the ground early and Tomlin just was'nt having it.

Now Tomlin told the kid to get his act together and lead the team or they would move on and in the game they put the rock on his back and rode him to victory every game since. Now the vet can't even get on the field that we played all last year.

Things happen and Maybe Hightower can't teach Beanie as well as Edge taught Hightower to get it down as fast as he did last season.I'd say by Hightower giving His personal game ball to Edge for what he had taught him that maybe its the case.

We've got a guy that is tentative and when he can play without thinking too much we've got a player who can hit the outside and get us a first down or maybe 40 at anytime in the game. Its coming to an NFL field near you.Just keep repeating PATIENCE.Coach Whiz is handling all of the bad things dealt to him in no OTA time this offseason,A FIRST DAY practice ankle injury,Fumble problems while having good runs.Just not enough practice time is the biggest factor in MY BOOK and especially in the passing game as a pass blocker and reciever.

He caught his very first NFL pass last week.Lets give the kid a break. He's never gonna be AP.But I'm so super glad we got him over the other two we might have gotten. Its just gonna take time. With our schedule this year we've got enough time to get him acclimated to PLAYOFF Football in 11 more games.Coach Whiz can do it.I'm sure Warner and others are working extra time with the kid.He lives with Fitzgerald,or he has been since camp and thats got to be a giant plus.

PATIENCE!!!!!!:D Its strange a team that took 100 years to get to the Superbowl for the first time can't find patience yet?I just pray and hope you do also that this team can stay HEALTHY.....Please LORD!!!

Mendenhall lost a good part of the season with Ray Lewis spearing his knee.

Mendenhall got hit square and was out cause of a shoulder injury. He talked smack to the Ravens the whole week leading up, but for some reason everyone remembers it as Ray going low on him. Ray hit him high and drove him into the ground destroying his shoulder, he did not spear him. I don't know where this story started but last week watching football everyone of my friends was saying the same thing. So I had to go online and show everyone that it was a shoulder injury on a clean hit and not a spear from Lewis after Rashard talked trash all week.

This is true but his road back after injury has been one very similar to the one we're on with Beanie as a rookie.Basically Mendenhall was still a rookie this year due to his not playing last year. Now he's tearing it up like Tomlin and the NFL thought this tough Illinois kid would.

Beanie is a totally different type runner. We can't put a game on his back but with the proper recieving and getting the occasional first downs and a few longer runs in the 20+ yard range we will be very happy with him.Something we never got out of Edge when it mattered most.Last week was sad watching what Edge has become behind that seahags line.

Dreamcast you are always watching over my shoulder.I'll call you my mentor.Hope I'm not breaking any rules and posting to your satisfaction.:DI just did'nt fit in with the negative crowd at the main board.I was stalked and chastised for anything positive and was never to mention the name Warner or war broke out.SO very glad things are different here and my 5000+ posts for so many years can stay on the main board forever.

I thank fiasco for me being here the most.Yet I see him post here more than he did on his own board.I'm no different than I was over there.Just explains the difference in attitudes of the two places.Even our so called dark side posters have a since of humor over here.Yet they never post till after a loss.I know thats common. Thanks for letting me feel at home.

This place helps with my constant medical conditon and it really helps relieve my chronic pain.:D

We are very glad to have you on board here Doug. Love the articles and the insight. Let's keep all of the articles in one thread each week? It will be easy to find them if you put them in your first post and update it when you add more.

I'll speak for everyone and thank you for the work that you do in collecting these articles and the insight you bring.

That is perfect for us because now they can use play action very effectively when Wells is in the game. It worked great against the Texans but didn't see any play-action in the Seattle game.

Hightower and Wells. TJones and MPittman part two? Let's hope not.
