Cretin-Derham Hall clinched a return to the state baseball tournament in Class 4A on Wednesday, but Woodbury made the defending state champion Raiders earn it.

Woodbury beat Cretin-Derham Hall 9-2 in the first game on Wednesday at Northwestern College in Roseville in Class 4A, Section 4, temporarily delaying the Raiders’ celebration. Ina winner-take-all final game, Cretin-Derham Hall bounced back with a 14-2 win in the second game.

The Raiders were the section’s No. 2 seed and dispatched top seed Stillwater last week. Woodbury was the No. 3 seed and was trying to reach the state tournament for the first time since 2017.

Rosemount will also be returning to the state tournament after beating Apple Valley 12-2 in the first game on Wednesday at Alimagnet Field in Burnsville. The top seed Irish stopped the surprising run by the sixth-seeded Eagles. Rosemount reached win-and-in status with a 4-3 victory against Apple Valley on Monday. The Eagles had upset No. 2 seed Eagan last week and haven’t made the state tournament since winning the Class 3A title in 2006.

Rosemount will play in the state tournament for the third time in four years and was the Class 4A runner-up in 2024.

The Class 4A state tournament begins on June 11 at CHS Field in St. Paul.
