Atlanta Braves trade idea brings in elite player who has dealt with many injuries in his career originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Atlanta Braves have dealt with injuries, bad luck, and suspensions. The outfield situation took a turn for the worse with Jurickson Profar, and there now needs to be something done.
Mark Powell of FanSided considered a trade idea that would send veteran outfielder Byron Buxton to Atlanta in exchange for a package of young talent, a trade that might need to happen for the Braves to have the season they want.
Powell believes that Atlanta may need to take a chance on Byron Buxton despite his injury history if the team wants to strengthen its lineup.
Braves get: Buxton
Twins get: Didier Fuentes, Diego Tornes, Hayden Harris
“The Braves don't have much of a choice. Yes, Buxton comes with his own set of issues – namely injuries – but he's played in more than 100 games in back-to-back seasons. Buxton can play multiple outfield positions, including either of the corners. He's a better player than Profar, full stop. And, per FanSided MLB Insider Robert Murray, Profar's wrongdoings should help Atlanta afford Buxton's contract, at least this coming season,” he wrote.
When healthy, Buxton is one of the better players in baseball. The issue, however, is that he’s dealt with many injuries throughout his career.
For the Braves, the risk would be centered around health. Buxton’s is as good as it gets, but he’ll need to stay on the field for any trade to make sense.
