Obviously would be a virtual draft in nature if held in June. Again, nothing decided, but the NHL’s Deputy Commissioner says it’s being discussed.

JUST IN: NHL looking at restarting season in July.

Games would be played at 4 or 5 neutral sites with limited or no fans, according to Florida Panthers president Matt Caldwell.

On the conference call, he said this plan is not finalized.

Looking at, or considering is fair. However, in follow up, sources say no decisions have been made and at this point this is speculative. A lot going on behind the scenes, so all potential restart scenarios are on the table.

Bill Daly told me one of the reasons the NHL wants to move the draft to June is to give teams access to European players. He doesn't feel it would be fair for the NHL to be trying to pluck players from Europe when their season begins if the draft is held in September. #NHL

Nothing normal about this season. I suspect all draft eligible players would prefer to have the Draft in June. Provides a somewhat normal summer of training designed by the club that drafts them. But, as you’ve written, Bruce, many questions and lots of pushback.

NHL offered place to play in British Columbia
British Columbia Premier John Horgan has offered the NHL a place to play if the league can find a way to resume the season.

Speaking at a COVID-19 media briefing Wednesday, Horgan said he has written a letter to both NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHL Players’ Association head Donald Fehr to let them know B.C. is “a place to potentially restart the NHL assuming the games would be played without audiences, but instead played for television.”

The NHL suspended its season March 12 with 189 regular-season games left.
