The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.
Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2025, questions they face and their roster outlook.
Here is linebacker Cody Simon.
Simon is in his second NFL season and second with the Cardinals. The Cardinals drafted him in the fifth round last year out of Ohio State. In his rookie season, he played 16 games and started the final nine after Mack Wilson suffered a season-ending rib injury. He finished the season with 76 total tackles, half a sack, two tackles for loss, one quarterback hit, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
He played 564 defensive snaps and 172 on special teams. The Cardinals went 0-9 in the nine games he started and the defense allowed 37 or more points in six of them.
He is in Year 2 of his four-year rookie contract worth a total of more than $5.2 million. He will earn a little more than $1 million and his contract will count under $1.3 million against the salary cap.
Simon appears to be a lock to make the roster and appears to be the leader for the second inside linebacker starting job next to Mack Wilson. He and free agent addition Jack Gibbens will compete for that role, but Simon ran with the first-team defense all through the spring.
Forced into a starting role last season, can he take that experience and make more plays?
