With quarterback Brendan Sorsby applying for the NFL supplemental draft, many teams must ask the question whether they should try and draft him. And analysts will try to match up teams who should do it.
Should the Arizona Cardinals target Sorsby, who was set to start for Texas Tech in 2026 and might have been a first-round talent in 2027 were he not ruled ineligible due to a gambling scandal in which he admitted to betting on sports, including his team and sport, dating back to his freshman year at Indiana?
ESPN's Ben Solak thinks the answer is easy.
The Cardinals drafted Beck in the third round. They are, though, expected to be one of the worst teams in the league in 2026, putting them in position to get perhap the top QB prospect in the 2027 draft. But if they view Sorsby that way, they could get him with potentially a lower pick and be able to use that first-rounder next year on another top talent, or even trade back, get top talent at another position and get more picks.
That is the question, though. While Solak believes that Sorsby "would easily clear Beck," would he clear guys like Arch Manning or Dante Moore, who will play in college in 2026?
And would the Cardinals still go with a first-round quarterback if they were bad enough in 2026, making the investment in Beck and potentially Sorsby seem wasted?
Those are all questions to ask in the weeks leading up to the supplemental draft.

The Cardinals are the most obvious choice, as they don't have an exciting starting option on their roster. Veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II are known backup types, while third-round rookie Carson Beck doesn't project as a high-end starter. Sorsby would easily clear Beck as the potential franchise passer. However, the Cardinals might not wish to spend any 2027 capital as they gear up for a bigger swing in the upcoming draft.
