The Arizona Cardinals have a big question to ask themselves over the next few weeks before the expected NFL Supplemental draft. Should they take a chance on quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who many believe would be a first-round pick in 2027?

While one analyst thinks the Cardinals are an obvious choice to bid on Sorsby, it might not be as simple.

The Athletic's Nick Baumgardner says the Cardinals are a team that should consider Sorsby, but it comes with caveats.

It can't be an early pick.

If I’m the Cardinals, I’m not sure I’d give up more than a fourth for him, especially after just using a third-round selection on Beck (which I believe was a reach). This isn’t dissimilar to the Klubnik situation in New York, though, in that the Cardinals already have a young passer they like. Spending valuable capital on another youngster, especially one in Sorsby’s current situation, could be tough.

That said, Arizona should play the game a bit here, because Sorsby is a better prospect than Beck. Arizona could be in position to snag a guy at the top of the 2027 draft, but there are no promises. Bidding a Day 3 pick on Sorsby could make sense.

This is 100% the right take. He is worth a Day 3 pick unless they think he is absolutely the answer. Then it doesn't matter what pick.

Now, historically, that won't happen. Five of the six quarterbacks selected in the history of the supplemental draft have come with a first-round pick. The lowest was Terrelle Pryor in 2011 with a third-round pick.

Adding Sorsby would likely end the nonsense of Jacoby Brissett's contract dispute, forcing a trade or a release.

How does the supplemental draft work?

Teams are divided into three groups — teams with six or fewer wins, other non-playoff teams and playoff teams from last season. The order within each group is random.

Teams desiring the player bid a draft pick from 2027.

The team bidding the highest pick is awarded the player.

In the case of multiple teams bidding the same pick, the tiebreaker goes to the higher priority group and then the random order within the same group.

The supplemental draft, if the NFL accepts Sorsby's application, will take place in the middle of July.
