Arians---Very pleased with Mini-camp so far.

After two days of Mini-camp, Coach Arians appears to be very pleased with the progress made at Mini-camp. He particularly noted the tempo with which the team played on day two, completing some 122 reps, yet finishing 20 minutes early. He also seemed pleased that the players 'get it' now, referring to the situational football that his staff teaches. He says that they now understand the situations, and can refer to their tapes to review how well, (or not), they played each particular situation.

Carson Palmer alluded to the fact that the players are 'way ahead' of where they 'finished' last season, and that he is very happy with the progress the team has made as a whole. He has encouraged the players to take notes in the meetings and refer to them often during their off time, as they review their own tapes that the team furnishes to them.

This is very pleasing to me, (especially at this point), that Mini-camp is going so well, and that with one more day to go, there seems to be much good feeling and vibes coming out of camp. Palmer indicated that he encouraged all the players to use the upcoming off-time to study their film, (and their notes), so that they can return to Training Camp in late July, and not have lost what they now know.

With all the off-season turmoil, this bodes well to me.

This is something I believe helps players more than anything else. When I was coaching soccer I would use this method on a regular basis. For example I would split the team into two groups and tell them they have 5 minutes left in the game and one side has a one goal lead. We would then go over what each side had to do in order to either preserve the lead or what needed to be done to tie the game.

I think putting players in real situations they would encounter in a game gives them so much more than drills ever could. It places them in a different mindset.

Another comment by Arians, speaking about the 2nd day of minicamp; which I found interesting, "We kinda re-did Super Bowl XLIII (43) scenario at the end, a two minute drive, and our defense got off the field."

Situation football, providing scenarios and setting goals for each and every situation. I love Arians approach and attitude about the game.
