Analyst Reveals Likely Starting Goalie For Penguins In Playoffs originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Pittsburgh Penguins could have a decision to make at goalie in the playoffs.
Pittsburgh has Stuart Skinner, Arturs Silovs, and Sergei Murashov as potential starters for the playoffs. All three have shown flashes of solid play this season, so who will start Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs?
Yet, NHL analyst Josh Yohe of The Athletic believes Skinner will likely be the Penguins’ starter for the first game of the playoffs.
“There is no right or wrong answer here,” Yohe wrote in an article published on Wednesday. “It’s been a dream season for the Penguins, and seemingly every button Muse has pressed has been the correct one. But even though it’s felt like the Penguins have been playing with house money all season, they aren’t now. Not in the playoffs. Not against the Flyers, if that’s who they draw. Not in what could potentially be the final time we see Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang in a postseason together. …
“I’d be stunned if Skinner doesn’t get the call. But I can’t help but think that if the Penguins are to make an improbable playoff run to punctuate their outrageously improbable season, Murashov might have to play a role.”
Skinner is 11-8-5 with a 2.99 GAA and a .886 SV% since being acquired by the Penguins. He helped the Edmonton Oilers reach back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, so he comes with plenty of playoff experience.
Pittsburgh is 40-22-16 and in second place in the Metro division.
