The Pittsburgh Penguins made the playoffs last season and are looking to build off that this offseason.
Pittsburgh re-signed Evgeni Malkin to a one-year deal, which means the Penguins will want to compete for a playoff spot again this year. With that, Penguins insider Josh Yohe of The Athletic believes the team is going after big names to bolster its roster.
“A league source told me over the weekend that Dubas is “going big-game hunting” this summer,” Yohe wrote in an article published on Monday.
Who the Penguins will be after is uncertain, but Yohe believes Pittsburgh will look to be aggressive on the trade front to bolster its roster.
Luckily, there are several big names available this offseason in trades. NHL insider Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet has the likes of Dylan Larkin, Matthew Knies, Owen Tippett, Bowen Byram, Jason Robertson, Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, and Tomas Hertl, among others as potential trade candidates.
With the NHL Draft beginning on Friday and free agency opening on July 1, the Penguins’ big move could come sooner rather than later.
Pittsburgh enters the offseason with over $37 million in cap space, so the Penguins have the room to take on a big contract of a star player.
