I liked #32 better. Oh well. I think #1 is for guards. The only big man I can think of who wears (or wore) #1 is Troy Murphy, and that's not necessarily a great guy to emulate.

I gotta tell you, the first thing that came to my heqad was: "Who else was number 1 on the Suns... oh yeah, micro-Penny... great."

THat's a horrible number associated with the last savior who's knees killed us - let's hope the number isn't cursed!

LOL, I didn't even think of that, but you're right, that's a pretty grim association.

For some reason this reminds me of when Jordan wore #45 for his first comeback, but he wasn't very good, so he gave up and went back to #23 the next year. Except now, the rule is that Stoudemire will be stuck with #1 for at least three years.

Totally lame. Pick one number and stick with it. Great players become synonymous w/ their numbers (who can see 33 and not think of Bird?), switching your number about prevents that.

This means that I want to purchase a #32 jersey now more than ever... shows that I am "old school" ;)

You can probably get one cheap too once they put them on clearance.

News from ESPN TV:
This real hot reporter chick with a last name like Dominguez or something said a while back that Amare had said that he picked the new number : 1 because it had some spiritual significance.

What the significance was, was not mentioned.

He is the man. Rodman did this quite a bit. I want some fresh talent though at point. Nash gets tired, put in some fire cracker!! I love the Suns and the Cards. We are going to be great for many years. (Knock on wood)

I would think the last thing you want is the Penny Hardaway number mojo, especially after all his knee problems.

Amare's goal was to become the best Power Forward in NBA history before the injury. That kind of goal takes a trend-setter.

Maybe down the road, young Power Forwards will want to wear #1 as inspired by Amare.

Here's hoping that his knees will allow him to challenge that goal.

Amare is just changing his number to that of the player the Suns should have drafted(Jared Jefferies).
