All Three Players In Caleb Durbin Trade Thriving For Brewers Now originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox took a big swing this offseason and traded three players as part of a deal to acquire Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Red Sox also received Andruw Monasterio and Anthony Seigler, but Durbin was the centerpiece. Durbin struggled to start the year, but he is playing better as of late. However, the three players the Red Sox gave away are looking like stars for the Brewers. The Brewers won the most games in the league last year and are on pace to finish with an even better record this year. The former Red Sox are a huge reason why.
The players the Red Sox gave up were Shane Drohan, Kyle Harrison and David Hamilton. Drohan made his debut as a starter, but struggled and was sent down. Since then, he has been recalled and has pitched great. He was coming out of the bullpen, often going multiple innings, but has been reinstated into the rotation now. He has a 3.11 ERA so far this season.
Harrison was originally acquired from the San Francisco Giants as part of the Rafael Devers deal. He has looked like an All-Star so far this season, and could even be in the Cy Young Award conversation if he keeps things up. He has a 1.57 ERA in 11 starts and has 73 strikeouts.
Hamilton was a utility player for the Red Sox, but the Brewers have turned him into a valuable part of their offense. They have turned him into a great bunter and have tinkered with his swing. He starts regularly now and is starting to really swing the bat well. He is slashing .270/.341/.541 in his last 11 games and has hit three home runs.
