As the curtain closes on another memorable Alabama baseball season, the attention now turns toward the next chapter for several Crimson Tide stars. While Rob Vaughn and his staff are already hard at work building another championship-caliber roster for 2027, one of Alabama's biggest names is preparing to hear his name called in the 2026 MLB Draft.
That player is superstar shortstop Justin Lebron.
In the latest 2026 MLB Mock Draft from CBS Sports, Lebron is projected to be selected with the No. 16 overall pick by the Texas Rangers. While that projection isn't quite where many expected him to land entering the season, it still places the Alabama standout firmly among the nation's elite prospects and would make him another first-round selection for the Crimson Tide.
Coming into the 2026 season, many scouts believed Lebron had the talent to challenge for the No. 1 overall pick. Although his draft stock cooled slightly during the spring after some inconsistent stretches at the plate, professional evaluators have never questioned the tools that made him one of college baseball's most exciting players.
Those tools were on full display throughout the season.
Lebron started all 61 games for Alabama, hitting .277 while posting a .386 on-base percentage and a .534 slugging percentage. He blasted 16 home runs, drove in 48 runs, and stole an incredible 42 bases, showcasing the rare combination of power and speed that Major League organizations covet. He also led the Crimson Tide in both home runs and stolen bases, proving he could impact the game in multiple ways.
Even with some swing-and-miss concerns that surfaced this season, MLB scouts continue to view Lebron as one of the most talented players available in this year's draft. His athleticism, defensive ability at shortstop, explosive bat speed, and game-changing speed on the bases give him an incredibly high ceiling at the professional level.
According to MLB Pipeline, Lebron remains the No. 9 overall prospect in the draft class despite the slight slide in mock drafts. That alone speaks volumes about how highly evaluators still regard his overall potential.
The projected fit with the Texas Rangers also makes plenty of sense. The organization has shown in recent years that it isn't afraid to invest in high-profile college stars with enormous upside. If Lebron ultimately lands in Texas, he would join an organization that has consistently targeted players with elite athletic traits and star potential.
For Alabama fans, Lebron's draft position is another reminder of just how much Rob Vaughn has elevated the program. The Crimson Tide continues to produce professional talent while competing with the nation's best, and Lebron is simply the latest example of a player developing into a first-round prospect in Tuscaloosa.
Whether he ultimately goes No. 16 or climbs back toward the top 10 before draft day, one thing feels certain: Justin Lebron won't be waiting long to hear his name called.
His final season in crimson may not have been perfect, but it was still outstanding by almost any measure. And when the MLB Draft begins in July, Alabama baseball fans will almost certainly be celebrating another first-round pick representing the Crimson Tide on baseball's biggest stage.
Roll Tide.
