The Los Angeles Rams and Puka Nacua have avoided contractual issues heading into camp, with both sides remaining committed to the goals of the 2026 NFL season, while working in the background to hammer out an extension.
Nacua, who is set to be a free agent after this season, has found himself in hot water with a current civil lawsuit and off-field issues dating back to last season. Nacua has taken steps to better himself, while also denying the accusations made in the lawsuit.
With all these factors surrounding the star man, his contractual future remains a hot-button topic. However, ESPN's Adam Schefter shared with Pat McAfee that Nacua will get his deal at some point in time.
"Puka Nacua is one of the best players in the National Football League and at some point in time, the Rams are absolutely going to want to re-sign him," Schefter said.
Schefter added that it doesn't sound like a deal will get done early in camp, but he could see it being something the two sides work out as the season approaches.
Considering Schefter's status as an insider, this indicates Nacua and the Rams are likely to get a deal done before his contract expires. This was always the likely case, but given that the Rams moved Jared Verse and discussed moving Davante Adams this offseason, there's no reason to believe Nacua is untouchable.
The NFL has not investigated the claims in the lawsuit against Nacua because it must wait until the legal process plays out. However, it's unlikely any punishment from the league, if warranted, will affect Nacua's future.
Alaric Jackson was suspended for the first two games of the 2024 season due to a personal conduct violation. He was given a multi-year extension that offseason.
