Man, let me just say that I have not seen the Cardinals play a game with that much intesity and heart in a long, long time. It seemed like the team really got all the life sucked out of them after A. Wilsons two penalties (even if one was bogus) but they somehow pulled it back together. If I was the coach, I would have called a T.O., huddled my players around me, and gave them a quick pep talk to fire them up again, but it still worked out.

Anyway, I saw a few things to get excited about. Here they are:

BOLDIN - My friends, this guy is a player!!! Even though he had only 3 receptions for 29 yards, I came away amazed at his toughness. On that last drive, he made a quick reception and was tackled low by a 9'er DB (i believe it was a DB). He got up gimpy and started trying to walk it off. When the coaching staff tried to get him off the field, he told them "i'm fine" and sent them back to the sidelines. The guy could hardly walk, but he went back to the huddle and on the next play (3rd down) he makes the reception and runs for the 1st down. Man, that was such a great sight! This kid, is tough and as we all know, will stay on the field at all costs. I love this guy, we need more players like him!

SHIPP- Wow, what can you say about him? 35 carries for 165 yards. This guy can be an amazing back in the leauge, if he's not already. Last year, I was compairing him to Priest Holmes and maybe after his last preformace, you can see why. His vision is excellent, and he has the ability to break tackles left and right. He has a surprising amount of wriggle in his game, yet he can run people over just as well. Shipp is also a great receiving threat. He's a very complete back and we haven't had a RB as good as him for a VERY long time. It was such a mistake to let Emmitt start over him and if Shipp loses his job to Emmitt again, then it's a big, big mistake.

Dennis JOHNSON - He is making strides. I was impressed with how he "explodes" off of the line, and he didn't get handled as much as he was at the begining of the year. He is starting to come on and he now deserves to be a starter IMO.

PACE - Very well played game. He was getting constant pressure on the QB and was playing the run very well. He was in the backfield all day. He even had a fumble recovery. This game goes a long was toward building his confidence and should show him that he can play at this level.

Wendell BRYANT - He quietly had a good game too. He was getting some good pressure and made a few nice plays. Probably his best game this year.

JACKSON - Fantastic day for him. He was a GREAT pickup this offseason and has done nothing but make big plays. Man, he can hit too. Jackson was in on almost every defensive play. He was really flying around. He's bringing some swagger to this defense, which was much needed. All around, fantastic game by him.

WILSON - This was the best game he turned in all year (save the stupid kick! That almost cost us the game!)Nice punt block and a great HIT (that was clean). He was flying around making plays too. Maybe I spoke a bit soon about moving him to CB. If he can use this game as a starting point, and build on it, then we might really have something. But, it's clear the he is lacking focus still. The kick is proof of that.

HODGINS - It's not often that a FB gets extra recognition, but he has Blown people away all year. Great lead blocker and has a little somthing as a receiver too.

Entire O-LINE - Played well, even dominate. They went against a very talented D-Line of the 9'ers and just destroyed them. Why they can't play like that every week is unknown. If they can dominate a d-line like the 9'ers, then they should be able to hang with any d-line in the leauge. Maybe they are starting to gel, and if they are, then watch out.

This was a great win. We dominated in every aspect of the game even though the score doesn't show it. Still some things we need to work on (like putting the game away) but this game could be a turning point for this season, if everything goes right.

Nice post mdsisquo. I agree 100%. I'll just focus on two of your points:

One, about Hodgins, he is worth about twice what we're paying him because he is getting it done in a big way, every week.

Two, about the O-Line. They played great yesterday. Big, fast and physical. Blake had excellent pass protection, and the vaunted 49er run defense got crushed by the Big Red Line. I think L Davis was gassed at the end of the game, but during the first half, he was throwing the neeners tackles around like rag dolls. It was awesome.

My thoughts on the game:

It was ugly. One of the worst combined performance on special teams I've ever seen in the NFL.

And the officiating was atrocious. I don't think the hit by A Wilson was a foul. If it would have really been helmet to helmet, he would have knocked that guy out. But there were plenty of bad calls on both sides.

That play where Lucas and Jackson forced Garcia to fumble on the goal line made me lose my lunch. The cards caught more than one unlucky break in this one.

Bottom line is that, take away the poor special teams and officiating, and we still outplayed them, and thus deserved to win.

P.S. Quan's interception was real real bad. He shouldn't throw it unless the receiver is wide open. He could have run the ball for 10 yard minimum. Good play call, poor execution.

Great win. Only six days to sunday (sigh)

actually..I thought this game was much better played than the cowboy-cardinals game last season... The kickers had very bad games - but the rest of the play was ok - not good - but I have seen games with more errors and mistakes than this one.. At the cowboys cardinals game last year..everyone was hoping for an ending just to put everyone out of their misery....jake and quincy carter were battling for worst player honors...this game was different... just my $.02...:D

No doubt about it...others were pumped over that game last year, and I could only as why, as we had done almost nothing right.

Yesterday's game, in contrast, was so bright that I've been holding back from really harping on the negatives. There are certainly still negatives there, but I just like to enjoy the positives.

What?
Good take MD.

Special teams wasn't really that bad overall. We had kick offs for touch backs finally. We had good punting again from Player and the coverages were good too. Our Special teams woes can be traced to one guy. Those three missed field goals really sucked but the rest was played well.

The lesson from the Niner game was that -

If we protect the ball, run the ball and stop the run, there's no reason why we can't compete with anyone.

We proved we can do this.

Seems simple, but if we just do this each week, we'd win more than our share of games.

I have to agree although I feel kind of bad. A girl I work with, her little brother was playing guard next to Harris. But this line was great. These guys played tremendously. Pace manhandled Harris. Funny that a number one pick is outplayed by a guy that experts said was a mid second to early third rounder.Dennis johnson gets better every game. He's looking like an NFL player. Two sacks in one game!! Let's build on this! Is it me or did this look more like the defense we saw in preseason?

Defense is coming around guys. I'm telling you.

I predict the dline will play as well or even better against the bungles.

Our corner backs are still the weakest part of our D, but even Hill and Barrett are playing ok. Both are decent at run support.

Did you see that open field tackle Renaldo Hill made on the whiner RB on the screen pass? Real nice.

Hill is ok in my book. Just a ham and egger who shows up with his lunch pail every week. Doesn't say much.

For as much flak as Hill gets about being soft on run support, his play on the Dallas reverse where he sacrificed to take out Two blockers was impressive.
